GTA 6 is expected to gross US$ 1 billion in its launch week

August 24, 2023, at 7:41 a.m.

The excitement and anticipation surrounding the release of one of the most anticipated games in history are reaching stratospheric levels. The long-awaited Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) has captured the attention of gamers and video game enthusiasts around the world. Every leak or rumor related to the game only intensifies this collective excitement, fueling the frenzy surrounding the next chapter in the iconic franchise from Rockstar Games.

Although the release date has not yet been officially announced, the giant Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's parent company, is aware of this excitement and expects to reap astronomical profits from the game.

According to an analysis by Joost van Dreunen of TweakTown, the game could gross about US$ 1 billion in its launch week, which would make it one of the biggest debuts of all time.

Take-Two Interactive recently forecast a major jump in its revenue for the next fiscal year, from April 2024 to March 2025. Many speculate that GTA 6 will be released during that period, as it is one of the few games (if not the only one) capable of generating such a significant increase.

1 billion in the first week:

GTA 6 GTA VI

According to an analysis by a video game industry expert, the game could generate $1 billion in sales in its first week and reach approximately 25 million copies sold during that launch period. Although this estimate may seem conservative—considering that Grand Theft Auto V sold a billion dollars’ worth of copies in just 3 days—it’s important to take into account the market conditions at that time.

Grand Theft Auto V was released in September 2013, two months before the launch of the Xbox One and PS4. The Xbox 360 and PS3 already had an established user base, with millions of units in circulation. If we assume that there won’t be an Xbox One or PS4 version of Grand Theft Auto VI (a plausible assumption), it’s possible that GTA 6 won’t reach the same sales volume as its predecessor, but that doesn’t mean it will perform poorly.

Support for future generations of consoles:

Furthermore, given the longevity of GTA 5—which continues to receive updates, remasters, and new content to this day—we can expect GTA 6 to also support multiple console generations, which will ensure significant long-term profits for Take-Two.

As always, we'll have to wait for official information about the game, but expectations are higher than ever!
