Game emulation on the PlayStation 2 he wasn't one of the best at Android, but now we have the AetherSX2 and it's the best way to play PS2 games on your cell phone.

How to Install the BIOS on the AetherSX2

The PS2 BIOS for AetherSX2 is used during the PlayStation 2 system boot process. Without the BIOS, the emulator will not work. If you haven't downloaded it yet, go back to the first step.

  • After downloading the BIOS, extract it to a folder.
  • When you open AetherSX2 and configure it as described in the thread above, tap the “Import BIOS” option.
  • Locate the folder where the BIOS file was downloaded (remember to unzip it first if it's a compressed file), select the file to import, and continue.

How to Add Games to AetherSX2

You can use up to three game file formats: ISO (the default), CHD, and CSO. There is no difference between these formats when using them in the app.

  • To download PS2 games, we recommend two websites: the ROMS Games and the Cool ROM.
  • Configure it according to the steps above, so we can move on to the part about Game Directories, as shown in the image below.
  • After downloading the game file—or files—tap the button + In the lower-right corner, look for the folder containing the downloaded and already extracted games.

Please note: The games must be extracted and be in ISO, CHD, or CSO format.

  • The app will ask for permission to read the folder containing the games. Allow access.
  • After completing this procedure, continue, and you'll see the screen for Configuration complete.

Once you've made these settings, just start the game by tapping its name. If the game doesn't appear on the home screen, tap the option Add Game Directory or the file icon in the bottom corner.

Additional Performance Settings for AetherSX2

There are a few other settings—beyond the app's default settings—that are more specific and advanced, which you can adjust to improve AetherSX2's performance. These include general settings, system settings, graphics settings, audio settings, memory card settings, the game list, BIOS settings, and advanced options. There are a number of settings you can adjust and test.

You can change the GPU renderer. You can choose between Vulkan and OpenGL, and the performance you get will depend on the device you're using and the game you're playing. OpenGL is only faster in some games. Use Vulkan if you have an Adreno GPU on your Android phone.

You can open the app's settings right within the game—for example, to adjust the controls—by simply tapping the icon in the upper corner of the screen.
