Microsoft Updates the Price of the Xbox Series S on Its Website

November 7, 2023, at 2:30 p.m.

After much controversy, criticism, and a long period of silence, the Microsoftupdated the suggested retail price of the Xbox Series S to R$3.599 on its official website. Despite the price increase to R$900, the phrase “best value for money in gaming” is still highlighted on the page.

Originally sold officially for R$2,699, the console was often available on sale for between R$1,700 and R$2,000, making it an attractive option for consumers who wanted to enter the new generation of gaming without spending a substantial amount, unlike the versions Series X e PlayStation 5.

Since the announcement of the change, there has been a significant reaction, both nationally and internationally, urging the company to reconsider its strategy in Brazil, which is becoming increasingly unfavorable to consumers. The suspension of the platform’s physical media distribution, the price increase for the Xbox Series S and even the ban on unapproved accessories have caused unease regarding the company's decisions.

Microsoft's Silence on the Price Increase

While all these measures are being taken, top executives at the Xbox division and Microsoft have remained silent regarding these changes. It is noteworthy that the only post they have made on national social media since this controversy began was to promote the launch of Thirsty Suitors on November 2. Meanwhile, Microsoft's official account continues to post regularly.

No justification was found for the price changes related to taxes and inflation in Brazil, which remained stable for a while and did not cause any changes in the prices of the Xbox Series X or any of the versions of Sony’s PlayStation 5.
