Following the emergence of several rumors over the past weekend, the Microsoft announced on Tuesday, the 5th, that it will soon release new information about the future of the Xbox. According to Spencer, the presentation will take the form of a “business update,” though no specific date has been set yet. As reported by The Verge, the purpose of the event is to confirm the company's plans to expand to multiple platforms, which would include releasing several games on the PlayStation 5 and the Nintendo Switch.
“We’re paying close attention and listening to what you have to say. We’re organizing a business update event for next week, and we look forward to sharing more about our plans for the future of Xbox. Stay tuned for updates,” said Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft’s gaming division.
Pressure prompts Microsoft to announce the event sooner:
Sources interviewed by The Verge suggest that Microsoft had originally planned to hold the event in late February. However, the flood of recent leaks forced the company to bring forward its public announcements.

The leaks suggest that, in addition to a new Indiana Jones title, the company has plans to make games like Hi-Fi Rush, Sea of Thieves, and Starfield available on multiple platforms. The latest reports even suggest that Gears of War, one of Xbox’s long-standing icons, may be released on PlayStation.
This new strategy, if confirmed, could be one of the unexpected repercussions of Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard. With access to the operations of a major publisher, Microsoft appears willing to expand the distribution of its games, while still offering benefits to those who choose its consoles in the future.
