X (Twitter) now supports audio and video calls on Android

January 21, 2024, at 7:02 p.m.

The app X, former Twitter, finally supports audio and video calls in its version for Android. A developer for the platform announced this feature on social media on Thursday, the 18th. This feature is exclusive to X Premium subscribers. While anyone can receive calls, only paying subscribers can initiate them.

With this addition, Android users now have more options available in the settings menu. In the “Direct Messages” section of the app, options have been added to restrict messages to only profiles you follow or that are verified, or even to disable the feature entirely.

When a call comes in, the app displays a notification on the phone. If the call is not answered, the notification is replaced by a missed call message.

Voice and video calls on X were launched for iOS in October 2023, as part of efforts to transform the service into an “all-in-one app,” in line with Elon Musk’s original vision.

This feature is being rolled out gradually and will be made available to everyone through updates. If it isn't available to you yet, we recommend checking the Play Store for pending updates.
