Xbox May Introduce a New Achievement System Soon

January 2, 2024, at 11:31 p.m.

A pioneer in the console achievement system, the Microsoftis about to introduce a new approach to this service. According to Shpeshal Nick, from the podcast XboxEra, the planned changes are expected to be implemented soon across the platform Xbox.

“What I’m hearing is that Xbox is nearly finished reviewing its achievements, with changes we can expect to see next year,” he said. He also clarified that the changes will initially be made available to Insider program members before being rolled out to the general public.

Although the fundamental principles should remain unchanged, the system is expected to undergo adjustments to more effectively highlight players“ achievements. Among the new features in the works are the new ”Platinum Achievements,” considered the rarest and most valuable additions to the collection.

Xbox Achievements May Still Be a While Before They Launch

In September 2023, Jez Corden, from the Windows Central, mentioned that he was aware of something similar during Gamescom. At the time, he stated that although the idea was on the table, it wasn't treated as a priority, since the focus was on interface and system tweaks.

Since Microsoft introduced the system during the Xbox 360 era, few changes have been made to the way achievements work. Despite adjustments to the total score that some games may offer and to the notification sounds, the company has maintained the basic structure that has proven successful and has been “copied” by competitors, such as Sony.
