In the weekly update on the status of Cities: Skylines 2, released this Monday, November 27, the Colossal Order admitted that the current version of the game already has a Editorincomplete content hidden in its files. The company explained that these tools serve as the basis for creating various mods that have been developed since the game's release.

While praising the community's efforts, the studio issued a warning, noting that, since the Editor is still subject to changes, any work done in it may become incompatible after future updates. However, the company emphasized that its intention is not to discourage or intimidate modders.
“Our intention isn’t to discourage you from working on your mods, but rather to openly share what you should expect. Some of the most notable changes will be in how maps are saved, so we can’t guarantee that those created in an unfinished version will work with the game in the long run.”
The Cities: Skylines 2 Editor will be released in 2024
The developer also revealed that it has already made changes to aspects such as water placement and the preservation of chunks of land, noting that these are areas that could become “unstable” in the future. In addition, it announced that the official version of the Editor will be released in early 2024, suggesting that modders using the incomplete version may need to adjust some of their creations starting at that time.
To assist creators, the developer has added new features to the official Cities: Skylines 2 Wiki. Modders can now rely on a new guide for creating assets, which must be compatible with an automatic level-of-detail system (though this can be adjusted manually by those who wish to do so).
Early Access for Developers
Finally, the studio has launched a survey that will grant early access to the game's Editor soon. Colossal Order has announced that it will select only a limited number of creators, chosen based on the quality and number of downloads of their projects in the first game of the series.
