O Google confirmed that, starting in December 2023, for users of the WhatsApp Beta and in early 2024 for the rest, unlimited storage for app backups to Android will be discontinued. Data stored in the cloud will count toward the 15 GB limit shared across services such as Gmail, Drive e Photos.

WhatsApp had been expecting this change since 2022
Speculation about the end of unlimited backup had been circulating since January 2022. This restriction on Google Drive is part of the measures Google has been taking to curb costs for its cloud service, including the automatic deletion of files from the trash in 2020 and the end of unlimited storage on Google Photos in 2021.
Inactive accounts will be deleted starting in December 2023.
