Google keeps failing and crashing. See how to fix it

April 2, 2024, at 2:40 a.m.

The app from the Google Some Android phones may have a bug that causes them to freeze and display a message saying “continuously crashing.” There are a few things you can try to fix this.

It freezes repeatedly within a matter of minutes, making it difficult to use the device. The problem may be widespread, primarily affecting Samsung and Motorola devices, among others.

Restart or clear the cache

One of the solutions was offered by Google; it suggests that you simply restart your phone to fix the problem. If that doesn't work, you can clear the cache for the Google app:

  • Go to Settings > Apps & notifications > See all apps;
  • Then look for the app from Google > Storage > Clear Cache.

Install the trial version of Google

Another option is to install the beta version of the Google app, which may not have this issue. Do the following:

  • At this link here on your cell phone or computer and click Participate in the tests (Become a tester);
  • Next, open the Google Play Store and tap your profile icon in the upper-right corner;
  • Then in Manage Apps and Devices > Available Updates;
  • Find Google in the list and tap Update.

Install a new or previous version

If the problem occurred without you having updated the app and the problem arose afterward, you can update it through the app store.

  • Just go to the Play Store and search for the Google app. There, you'll see the option to update, so you can install a newer version that fixes the error.

If this problem occurred after an update, download the previous version. This step is more complicated for those who aren't very familiar with the subject.

  • First, check the settings to see which version of Google is installed in Settings > Apps and Notifications > See all apps > Advanced and in the last option, further down, is the version number;
  • After that, between at this link here On your phone, look for your version, but don't download it—download the previous version instead, the one with an earlier date;
  • After downloading, uninstall Google so that it becomes “outdated,” and then install the version you downloaded. You may be asked for permission to install from unknown sources; accept it;
  • If the installation was successful, open the Google app again and check to see if the problem has been resolved.

Restore to factory settings

The last option is to restore the Google app to its factory settings:

  • Just go to the Play Store and search for the Google app. There, you'll see the option to uninstall it; doing so won't delete it from your phone—it will just revert to the factory version.
